Niruban Balachandran is Projects Monitoring Officer at the World Bank, where his portfolio encompasses social, urban, rural and disaster resilience programs in Indonesia. An American born in the United States and raised in Los Angeles, his career has spanned more than a decade in capacity building, social science research, foreign policy, and international development across China and Southeast Asia.
Mr. Balachandran was a winner of the World Bank’s Innovation Challenge and The International Society for Human Ethology’s Linda Mealey Award. He is widely published in scholarly journals and media around the world, and speaks English, Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin Chinese, and French. He was educated in both the U.S. and the U.K., having been trained at Rutgers and the LSE.
